being a finance and economics major im so sick and tired of people blaming the president for high gas prices. come on do you honestly think one person has enough power to controll the price of somthing that is traded on a futures market. yes predicting prices sounds crazy doesnt it. also how does someone expect to get crude cheap from over seas when it takes 1.60 dollars us to make 1 euro dollar. think about it if it were a 1:1 like it was in the 90's we would be paying 75 a barrel. wow gas would be under 2.75 a gallon. now if we would start using only our oil and not the foreign crap then you would see a price drop. hate W for what ever reason you want, trust me i sat that last two elections out becuase i didnt want to vote for him. its more than meets the eye.

think about what clinton did in office and tell me how he allowed gas prices to be so low. look at the invesment portfolios now compared to what they were a decade ago. there are much much more holdings in energy. when ever you have that much money riding on somthing and it is a future of course it wont fa'll. key to lower gas prices. find somthing that is more attractive to invest than energy and stop consuming as much. problem is as of right now the cheapest source of energy is fossil fuel and the crude is high. fix it by using our own stuff and open refiniries. hell how about this idea drill off of cali and FL. also steplift 20 if the dem's take office and gasoline is cheaper. i will eat crow i promise but i dont see it happening.

GW doesn't have any power over the price of gas. Our crappy "representatives" have allowed our economy to go to crap, and are over taxing the heck out of us. I'll tell you all what, everybody on this site write and call your representatives and tell them that you want them to back the Fair Tax bill. And when you geta return letter telling you that the plan isn't good, keep writing them and tell them to research it. And while you're doing that, tell all you're friends to do the same. What happened to all those oil wells they capped off years ago because they said oil had to be over $60 a barrell to make it worth pumping them.

I'd say its time to start pumping again.

And if you think Exxon doesn't have enough dough to influence the next set of leaders, check their record profits they keep reporting, they can buy anyone they want, including anyone who comes up with a better, cheeper fuel.

Another way to lower fuel costs is to get rid of ethanol. Our current ethanol production methods uses around 1.2-1.3 gallons of diesel to grow, harvest and cultivate the materials and to get it to the manufacturing plant. Not to mention that it will only yield around 80-85% of the power potential of gas. So not only are we using more petroliem to make than what we produce, but were getting less efficiency when using it. All to make some tree huggers that don't know no better feel better.
