Hey guys
What temp are you running on your engine. Think I'm high (temperature!) thought I'd poll you guys. What thermostat for a Merc 898? Thanks Pete

160-165 for raw water cooled and 160-195 for fresh water cooled. The hotter you can run it, the better. But, since raw water systens are non-pressurized, they cannot operate at 195 because there will be localized hotspots above the boiling temp of water at 212 degrees. At 16 psi with coolant, systems can operate as high as 270 degrees before boiling so fresh water systems can operate hotter.

i have the 5.7/260 i/o. i just had it hooked to the earmuffs and it seemed to run pretty hot. i hope its just my water pressure and hoping it runs cooler when in the water.

Thanks GMC, I'll try that. I thought it seemed a little cold.

should run all right on the muffs, but you can't race it or anything. But at Idle should be fine, at least mine was.
use to run 165 in it.
