Cool

I believe you can use any guages on any engine. In the case of the Tach, you need to have the tack set for the same number of poles as the alternator poles. Other than that I cannot see any reason you can't use whatever type/brand you want. About the only one I can think of that you might have a problem with would be the tilt/trim guage, not sure how specific that is to the original ...

normally if its a standard type gauge, you can swap them around, but if its a manufacturer's branded gauge(especially the digital ones) you may run into issues

Yes and no. I know the newer Johnson/Evinrude ones have a 8 pin pigtail and no regular posts. So are just feed, ground and light, so they are pretty universal. Also when you are talking Tachs, you need to know how many poles the gauge and the motor are.

Generally speaking, the instructions that come with a new tach will tell you what engine you can use it with (number of cylinders) and on the back of the tach will be a small dial that you will use to set it to the number of poles on your engine. (What you are actually setting the tach to is the number of poles on your alternator) Normally they will function with either 4, 8, 12, 14 or 16 poles on your rotor, depending on what your engine has. (The pulses can also be obtained from the ring gear of your engine by means of an electromagnetic sensor). By setting the dial on the back of the tach what you are actually doing is telling the tach how many pulses to count for one complete revolution of the engine. So, to answer your question, what you need to look for is how many poles are on the alternator of your 135. You should be able to find out that information from Evinrude's website or pretty much from any site that sells replacement alternators for your engine. Hope this helps.
