Used the Git Rot on a small area that annoys me.
Let me tell ya, for the price of that stuff, it's easier to just cut out a small area of the floor, replace the wood and reseal the deck down to the wood. Now I just applied it an hour ago, so it does need to set up. That small area is the least of my worries. Trying to sand the deck so I can use the primer on the hull as well as the deck. Been slacking lately, Night work is killing me and the weather hasnt been good. Calling for rain Sat. and colder weather on Sunday. : (

I had a feeling I should cut the wood out. If you can get direct access to the plywood can you simply cut it out and replace it? If so how do you create a bond to the existing fiberglass? or do I have to cut straight through the deck, which I hope is not what you say?

Well if the deck is in all one good piece then I would tap around with hammer till I found good wood, then square off the spot with pencil.
Take skill saw and cut on the line. Put the deck to one side. After you have repaired the hole, just have to use resin to glue the deck to the new dry wood. A little Marine Tex in the space around the patch and paint to match, your all set!!

hey as MJ said cut out larger than is bad so you get into good wood. to glass back in just peel the old deck glass off the piece you cut and then bevel the seam of the glass's and patch the seam with several layers of glass start with a small piece that just covers the cut and get about 2 inches wider each piece of glass till the joint is to higher than the original deck and then just block sand level and then paint you'll be good to go.

It seems like all members have similiar problems with gelocat cracking. I have only had this boat for 1 week but am uncertain why Wellcraft didn't seal the bottom of the deck as well. It is simply exposed plywood, over the course of a boats life of course humidity will separate the plywood. Once that happens stress cracks. I don't see anything similiar in the gelocat of the bottom of the hull, but my assumption is this is true of the floor as well. I think I might rip the floor out as well to assess the boat as a whole.

Don't feel like Wellcraft is the only one...saw a pic recently of exposed wood on a NEW Grady White under the hull...

Back up Hammer....How did a vehicle crash into the house next to you? Isn't everything like 25 mph or even less around there.
