thats awsome dude! something bout seeing an old boat and motor that can still get her done. dont know what exactly makes it so cool but, its just cool. and those are some darn good numbers for any motor on that boat.

my pre katrina boat had an old 79 evinrude 150 on it. never even considered repowering! goes to show ya how long a well built motor will last if taken care of.

I seen a 230 Coastal and trailer (no motor) for sale this weekend. Its an 88 model and I stopped to look it over for grins and giggles. They want 4k. its a pretty solid boat from what I can tell. MAN I want it bad!! :-X

Thanks for all the kind words and encouragement guys! I took Friday and Monday off to stretch out the weekend and I've either been working on the boat or out on the lake on it.

Everything didn't go without incident though.

Sunday was the first day I tried running off of the main tank instead of portables. I had already taken around 90 gallons of gas out of the tank before the pickup sucked air and I collected maybe 4 to 5 ounces of water. I then took off the sender cover and took a peek inside. I even got pics for Hammer...





I tried pumping more gas out through the hole and I only got about anothe half gallon with about a thimble full of water in it.

I buttoned it back up and put a new Racor fileter on and threw in 20 gallons of gas. Out on the lake and after a good run stopped for a swim. Had some T-Storms coming in so we headed back to the ramp. Came off plane for a no wake zone and when I throttled back up it bogged badly. Oh, Oh.... Switched back to the portable and pumped the bulb but it wouldn't get har... um,... build up enough internal pressure so that I couldn't compress it fully any longer and the motor still wouldn't start. Tried pumping the bulb some more and noticed a strong gas smell. I took the cover off the motor and found that the plastic bowl that hold the filter built in filter on had come completely off!. I tried to screw it on but it seemed to keep cross threading. Got it on "good 'nuff" and managed to idle back to the ramp. I got soaked but avoided the lightening.

After the fact analysis found 1.) The bowl had an o-ring that was too large installed keeping it from seating properly. The PO had this marina serviced so there you go. 2.) All the hose switching caused me to create a kink in the fuel line so that when I tried to start it the next day it took me an hour to figure out what the problem really was. 3.) It still has a flat spot in the midrange that responds to a quick blip of the choke so it looks like I will be rebuilding the carbs after all. They sat for two years prior to this. 4.) The big cabin is a great place for kids to sit out bad weather and for changing out of wet clothes too. 5.) I must be gettin' smarter in my old age because all of this didn't happen out at sea somewhere.

Oh, and there was the broken Powerwinch cable too. My wife said the boat ride was like Gilligan's Island. My daughter said the launch ramp haul out was like McGyver.

And now for some rapid fire responses not necessarily in the order they were presented...

I'm happy with the performance so far but remember the 125 gallon gas tank was empty.

There is a 230 Costal for sale down the road a bit from me too. I might call the number on it just out of curiousity.
