Hey guys I will tell you what I know to be true. My buddy who works for a local sporting goods store here in Mobile deals Mercury. He went to a seminar and they had a demo video on the E-Tec. All three boats were equal...except the motors. The engines were all 200hp and they were the E-Tec, Vmax, and the Optimax. Anyway he said they all started at the same place and at first throttle the E-Tec immediately jumped ahead by about 4 boat lengths. They continued acceleration for about a quarter mile and it continued to walk off and leave the rest. By the end of the "race" the E-Tec was at least a couple hundred yards ahead of all the rest. :o

He said is was an unbiased and unendorsed test and I would imagine so since his company deals Mercs ;D

From everything I've heard/ read, E-Tec would be my choice if buying a new OB...my Honda is GREAT...don't get me wrong...a REAL fuel sipper if ever there was one...but if the E-Tec 175 had been immediately available and CERTAINLY had the 200 small block been available, then THAT'S what would be hangin' on my transom today!!...

As far as "new technology"...really there's nothing "new" about them, except Bombardier engineered all the traditional 2-stroke problems OUT of 'em...plus the E-Tec configuration has been in testing by the military for a lot longer than the general public has been aware of it... I got a lot of faith in Bombardier...they'll spend the money and time to get it RIGHT...do I believe EVERY SINGLE E-Tec will be perfect...NO...but it'll be as good and in most cases better than anything else currently on the market... Won't be too soon, but I'm pretty sure there's an E-Tec in Reelapeelin's future... ;D...

			Oh no!!!! Im sorry LMAO

In the race it was a Verado instead of an optimax representing Mercury. The winner is STILL the E-Tec. I was just wrong on which Merc is was. sorry ;D

RAP, So the four stroke sips fuel? These Honda guys here are telling me that the four stroke will use half the gas as my two stroke. I figured when time came I had four stroke in the future. But this E Tec sounds really good.

If anyone really has an interest, you can go to thehulltruth and view EXHAUSTIVE debate on the E-tec vs. 4-stroke drama. The consensus seems to be that the e-tec out paces the 4 strokes and gets better fuel economy and emits less pollutants... unless you happen to own a 4-stroke in which case substitute "4 strokes" for "etec" in the above statement and vice versa.

Yeah, CT, you got that right...THT could be called "The Hull OPINION"...there's your side, his side, then there's the TRUTH...there's some good stuff on that board, but you gotta pick and choose... ;) ::)...

I top my tanks up each time I finish for the day...difference between old carbed Rude and Honda is pretty dramatic...wish I had fuel-flow meter so I could give some hard numbers, but reduction in fuel consumption seems to be around 40% or so...
