Well I was a single axle guy for the first 5 years of V20 life and was fine for were I went and i trailer a lot!
But What a difference it is to have a tandam!! Much better handling and stuff the the single! I still like Brand New!! And Galv more then used Alum, But I love Tandam! :-/ Well I guess i would have to look at the Alum and see what shape its in, to decide. I would pull the tires and look at the breaks and stuff before buying, people here have spent $300+ re doing there breaks!! If I had to redo all breaks and the guy no come down on the trailer to cover the cost, I would go with the New trailer. But all is good or he covers the repairs by a reduction on price I guess I would go with Alum. Goold Luck

i know everyone says Aluminum but they crack on highway trips from the flexing i've had 2 crack and seen several crack, you are better off with the steel trailer. I have 4 aluminum tandem trailers but the boats i plan on keeping i'm putting on Steel trailers. i'm taking the 250 Wellcraft off the aluminum trailer due to cracks on it and putting it on a steel one.
I have a tandem that was under my V20 i'm selling it has no brakes but it is a 6200# trailer all aluminum with new tires and lights.

I'm sure there is good & bad in every product. I had a tandem galv the first 7 years i had this boat and changed to a tandem aluminum 10 years ago and have not had any problems. I did buy a heavy duty trailer, more than i needed, 7000 lbs. given the 2 options you listed, i would go with the tandem over the single. my normal tow is 4 miles roundtrip to the ramp. but i have trailered to the keys 5 times, 1500 miles round trip.

Galv. tandem would be best choice, but that's not one of the options you mention ... IF it's in good shape (no cracks) and brakes are clean and work good, I'd go w/the used Alum. ... :D ...

I'm gonna vote for tandem over single. Steel or luminum is less important to me than that second axle.
My .02
