Well, first, that's not me in the pic ;D
Billy Mac, I haven't seen it up close but I'm almos 100% certain that is either a wooden or steel dow with a sharpened end, that you simply poke through the bottom lip of the fish. I see why you thought it might be a line now, but I'm almost certain its more like a rod. You could store it similar to the way one would store a gaff on the boat. Blue
