I bought a 1985 CC. 1998 Johnson 175 HP with 475 hours on engine (checked on computer at mechanics shop), dual axle trailer (lasted a year and a half) been replaced now, outriggers, bimini top, GPS, FF, VHF, amfm stereo, anchor etc. ~ overall in fair/good condition and paid $5,900 two years ago. I now have 680 hours on engine and a new trailer and a few upgrades, downrigger, color FF new leaning post and some minor work I have done and it is still probably only worth $5,900. Boats are not great money making investments, but if you get some use out of them, they are worth it in my opinion. Good luck with your purchase. Motor is very important and try and take that to a shop to get it looked at by your mechanic. Bottom paint on that hull may mean that it was stored in the water at some point of its life, which is hard on any boat. Fresh water use is better than salt of course. What are they asking for that boat and do you get any electronics? here is mine. |

The motor is a 91, trailer is a 99 but he won't give me compression numbers or hours for the motor. Makes me VERY wary about it. He says it still has original tanks in it so what are the chances that they are bad? Comes with fish finder and radio. He wants 4500 for it. I was going to offer 3500 but he won't give me those numbers. Just says come and look at it but its a 100 mile drive one way to take a look. oh well....maybe he will get back to me

SK take a road trip prepared to take it home if it shakes down good, either have someone lend you the gauge and teach you to do it and do a compression test, drain some fluid from the lower unit and look at it. Or if you have a mechanic friend take him along. If not see if there is a retired mechanic guy who would take a ride and do it for you for a hundred bucks or so. Also you did not mention about a sea trial. After knowing what I know now I would not buy a boat except possibly under some extraordinary situation without a sea trial. That will tell you more in fifteen minutes on the water than just about anything else. You want that engine warmed up, you want it at max rpm for some time and checking it under load. That would be the absolute minimum I would do. Other than that the price is good if the transom/stringers are ok. They are great boats and ride better and drier than most CC's you can buy new today. If you are going to take it home same day prepare for the tow, find out when the last service was done to the hubs, condition of tires and the spare. And find out where there is a good trailer or parts store near by him if you need to get something done before you can leave. Bring grease gun jack etc. I have also found a super model or two is nice to have with you, relieves tension and makes the ride go by faster. ;D
