Hey Fugazi, I'm just curious about a couple things.
1. Looks like you were able to use your old controls. Did you have to change cables? Adapters? Tilt/Trim? 2. I didn't see any tachometer on your console. How are you certain on your RPM's. 3. Behind the Lowrance device I can see another piece of electronics. Apelco? Can't really make out what it is. I'm just an inquiring mind kinda guy. Thanks

Yeah Fugazi, What's the story?
BTW, what are M120's, anyway? Sounds like they are more powerful than M80'S ;). |

Nah.. I never got around to putting on the trim tabs. I'll hold off till next year. BTW I found at boatfix.com for real cheap if you're interested in getting a pair of M 120's. :)

I got a multi-function tach with the engine, I'm sorry that the dash photo was taken before the repower. I was told that I would be able to use the old controls from omc but I still went with a new control package as the old controls were just ratty and the throttle had a lot of creep in it. And as far as the piece of electronics is concerned, yes It's an apelco loran. I got it off ebay new and it sucks. it's hard to use and even though it was a new old stock item it's not all that accurate and it switches loran chains on you... I got some loran numbers for some wrecks just south of moriches in 105' of water that I wanted to convert to GPS but never found it. :( The M120's are bennet trim tabs that are perfect for the V20. they are meant for hulls 20' to 26' in length. |

Nice choose engine. They have been extremly reliable in the short time that they have been out. Did you buy it because you had a Johnson before and liked it(even though this is a suzuki) or just liked the engine. Is the top end worse. My friend's dad repowered his 21' Wellcraft CC with a 200 honda over a 185 rude and he lost 4.8 knots Top end wise. Just curious to see if this happens on all 4-stroke's

I lost a couple on the top end -- around 5 to 6 mph less due to a little added weight and it was 10 hp less than my old two stroke. I got the engine not because of the johnson name, but it was a suzuki with johnson stickers and I have gotten some good reports on the suzuki 140 four strokes-- there's a couple of commercial guys in my marina who swear by it...one guy put over 2000 hours on it and he claims to just do regular oil changes and flushes it after every use (it has a great built in fresh water flush port that fits the standard dockside/garden hose) it is certainly not as peppy as a two stroke....it's slower to accelerate. But it's great while cruising-- efficient and quiet. I have to admit I miss the acceleration especially when you have to run a rough inlet, but the 140 johnson is adequate in hairy situations. I also like it as it starts up without fail on the first turn of the key and you don't have to prime the fuel bulb everytime. I't essentially one of those reliable jap engines you'd see in a car.

No whale tale or tabs. I was going to install them but got lazy and was satisfied with the way the boat was running that I decided to put it off till next season. do you really think it would help to stick on one of em' doel fins on the cavitation plate? the trim tabs would help in the uneven load situation and perhaps plane me off at lower speeds but don't quite know the point of the whale tail. -- F
