I just replaced the seals on a Seastar cylinder. Mine did not have any corrosion and the spanner nut broke free very easily. I did not torque it back, but tried to exert the same force as it had when I removed it. The nut is made out of aluminum so I did not want to over tighten. I would err on the side of caution.
