Ok my V-21/Yamaha 200 with a yamaha 9.9 Kicker is just fine for whater on the deck. My 200 is a 2-Stroke but with all that I had two guys at 200Lbs each 3/4-full of fuel a Med. cooler full of sea-ice and the fish box FULL of fish. I got mabie had 1" to 1 1/2" of water. As for the transom it's about the same but it all run's out when cruzin. When trolling for salmon in 2-5' chop there is always an inch or so rolling around in the back. At WOT fully trimmed and flat water I hit 47-49 MPH.

Just get the Bigger one

Thanks for your detailed answer.
Question - when you refer to 1"-1.5" of water in the back - do you mean in the V21 engine well area or the deck by the drains ?
Also, is that with the 9.9hp kicker on the back too ?

The water was 1-2" in the motor well and 1/2 -1" in the drains. That was in a 2-5' chop and yes with the kicker hanging out there I also had a 5Gal can to on that trip . This year I travled light no cooler of ice no gas can(F@#$ Stupid) and little gear under the cuddy. I only had 1/2" in the well drain area and very little in the motor well. My top speed 47-49 is with the top and windows on pretty sure she would go 50 with the top down. I have trim tabs for her and just havn't had the time to install them yet. I hope to have them on this spring if all goes well should improve it just a wee bit.

Get the tabs - it makes a huge difference with the V21 ride characteristic.
A little down tab and the bow edge cuts through the waves and greatly eliminates pounding.
You can really dial in the ride with tabs, engine trim, and speed. Major difference - and you'll enjoy the boat a lot more too. I recently had to run about 15 miles straight into a nasty ocean chop of 3-5's and with the tabs, I was able to run 15 knots almost all the way.
Had the front and side curtains up, lots of spray, but a real decent ride. Never could have done that before the tabs.

Does the transom well fill with water - if so how high ? on my 1986 yes but only when backing down hard
2. Does water come up through the deck floor drains - how much ? yes, I have had water up to the fish box
3. With 1-2 people standing in the back, does water come in ? of coarse
4. When you slow down to a stop, does water fill the transom well ? nope but i have a merc 150 bluewater
5. With the 200hp, what's your approx top speed ?with my wake tower ,waterballast and 3 people , i do 34 kts ( about 39 MPH )But I have a 2002 merc bluewater and trim tabs

Default 200hp

I have an 87 v20 with a merc 200 & I have most of the troubles you refer to. I understood the v21 deck was a bit higher to fix just these problems.

BTW mine will do 45 on GPS wide open.
