Cant fish the ocean off NJ till the NE wind drops

I got out on the Big Jamaica last Sunday. Fishing was very slow. Maybe a dozen or so blues and 3 keeper bass on the whole boat. I had a short bass and a spiny dogfish. Just an fyi, there was a lot of floating wood and a very large submerged piling in Manaquan River. Be careful if you are going to venture out for bass.
