Yup, that's the way not only Wellcraft, but most all boat mfgrs made 'em before somebody came up w/a self-bailing design...well, the Nina, Pinta and the Santa Maria were self-bailing decks...just took modern boat-makers a while to apply it to our size boats...and it IS a superior design, no doubt...but remember it's only a scupper-clog away from sinking, too...

The twin 20 gal under-gunwale tanks were used 70 - 77...no flotation in the hull to speak of and I recall reading here re peeps using multiple 1,000 GPH bilge-pumps as standard install...
