Just lost connection and post, so in short, that's about what I was thinking.

I have always said if your not happy, make a change.

welcome to the cult... if i remember someone's earlier post, the alim's had the steps in the hull, but not quite as much of the carolina flare and were not as beamy. i also think they make a 16, 19, & a 23 foot model. i think it would be great to see one restored, but do it because you want the boat, not as an investment. remember the old line,"If you want to make a million in the boat business, start with 2 million".

Mine is the 19' if memory is correct, which would bring the question, if the transom will need such major rebuild and also all wood being replaced it would not be a big step to stretch it out several feet. What would be the down side if any ? and how much might be practical ?

I can do anything I set my mind to, so removing cost and logic, let go of the wisdom (everyone)

Ok, Go for it. If you like the boat, throw caution to the wind. Transoms are always a must do on older boats so I think you should plan on that and stringers. You want it to last so think about composites, I like coosa. Epoxy or vinylester? How fast do you want to go? Hardtop, bimini? Extending the hull would be some kind of expensive but cool. A highly modified Alim may be the apple of your eye, but may not translate on paper is all I was saying. I am there, I have Reelapeelin's nice old 1973 Wellcraft hull with big plans. First thing to do is tear it down to the keel. Best I can describe my situation is "Failure to Launch". These boats love time and $$$ that I don't have right now. However, I am not against living vicariously thru your rebuild thread. I would love to see it. Welcome to the site BTW, you will fit in great. Wish I found this site before I did my boat.

Fantastic!!!, another step closer to finding out I am not the only person in the world that has one of these, or the only one ever made.
That is the boat I have. It did have the I/O inline 6. The engine is trash, but I have seen worse revived. I do have two chevy V8's with Velvet drive transmissions that were supposed to be out of a Chris Craft, so options abound.

Thanks
Ron

Ron, I have the original that I scanned for the picture in my photobucket album. It's yours if you want it. PM me you're address and I'll mail it to you. Also check the last page of the history picture gallery for another Alim picture.

Welcome RonL, Glad ta have ya with us! Can't wait ta see your boat. Glad ta see another boat lover out there. Just remember ta have plenty of patience and everything will work out just fine. It took about a year and a half ta get my 77 rebuilt and most of the bugs out, but the outcome is extremely satisifing when you take it out for that first ride! Good Luck and we're all here ta help, all ya got to do is ask.
