Question Replacement Engine Question

Well I am looking for a new-to-me engine and I keep finding some Johnson 115HP 20" shafters.

My question is, what would be the performance differences from my Evinrude 150HP?

Would it just be quiter and better on gas?
Would I just not be able to move the V at close to 45 MPH?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

What year 115? If it is a 95+ that is a V-4 60 degree looper then it will perform pretty well and be a rock solid engine. The earlier 115's that are the cross-flow engines are still good engines, but not quite as powerful and definately thirstier.

Shoot, if a 115HP will move a V-20 at 45 mph, then I need to trade in my 200.

So a later model 115 would be a good fit for a V?

I am just looking for something dependable that will plane the V and cruise at a decent speed, say 25 - 35 MPH.

By the way, I never hit 45, the first year I owned the V I was hitting 40 and then each year
I noticed a reduction in top speed, I should have known then that I was losing compression.

Thanks Willy.

I am at the point in my life were speed does not matter,
I just want to get there, drop some lines,
take a nap and then get back.

If you can find one of the 95+ 115HP OMC loopers then jump on it. They are not speed demons, but they are fairly quiet for a carbed 2 stroke and you can't beat the reliability of them. The 90-175's that were refferred to as the EAGLE series by many has been argued to be the best engines that OMC EVER built.

The Johnson 115 on Old School topped out at about 34 mph this season based on the gps. I cruised around 25 mph. I think more could be achieved with some tuning and prop optimization.
