My 115 could barely hit 28 with just me and 20 gallons of fuel on board.

115 Johnson on a bracketed 85 cuddy, cruise 24-26 and topped at around 35 loaded.
Was Old School a fluke? I don't think so. Have others I know that run the later 115's and had good performance like that and got good gas mileage to boot.

That late model 115 is a STRONG 115 though Willy. It is putting out every bit of a 115HP at the prop if not closer to 130.

I had a 2000 115 ficht evinrude--never missed a beat and was awesome on fuel, but I did not feel that it would push my V-20 loaded fast enough to put on a good plane without just running the piss out of it. So I put a 25" 200HO E-Tec--which is the Big Block model and it pushes me very nicely without working it at all. It cruises withotu even working at 35mph and gets around 4.4 mpg at this speed. It only weighs in at 496 fully rigged and is not a problem weight wise--we have 4 people and fishing gear,Cooler, ice, fish, bait etc right at the back of the boat and it is okay.

If you are looking for a great 115hp engine--look for a Evinrude ficht model--just not the 150 or 175 ficht as they had mapping issues and all melted down. The guy I sold my engine to had a looper 140 and he could not believe the performance difference that the 115 ficht gave him--He called to ell me how happy he was with the fuel burn and the power--he said I did not exagerat at all when I sold it to him, he was very impressed.

If I thought my 115 would push the V-20 to 35 mph loaded and ready to run I would have kept it(after all it was paid for).

MY .02 on this.

Don't know if you found an engine yet or not, but I came across this one tonight. These 140's are STRONG runners with lots of torque and can run with most 150's.

That is perfectly fine that you took this off topic.

I had a situation come up where my beagle broke his back,
now with rehab and all, he has become one really expensive , lucky, dog.

Let's just say I probably could have gotten a really nice two year old motor
for what I have invested.

He is not a standard beagle.
He doesn't howl at any little thing,
he is very clean, a good companion to me and my wife
and he is only 5 years old.
There is also another reason, but it is lengthy and personal.
Next week we take him for a therapy evaluation
and so far just from what we have told them over the phone,
they think they may get his back legs working again.
If not, I will get him one of those dog wheel chair thingys, they are pretty kool.
they think they can get him walking again.
