Default Need a better price for manifold and riser

I have noticed that I have been losing coolant from the fresh water side of the system and pressure testing shows that the system is not holding pressure. I haven't identified a specific leak but Spareparts posted some notes on this engine a couple of years ago that identified the gasket between the manifold and riser as a common problem. I can't find any external leaks so I pulled the riser off to check the gasket between the manifold and riser. There is corrosion up to the bolt hole closest to the #4 cylinder and that bolt brought most of the threads from the aluminum manifold with it when it came out. I hoped to find only a bad gasket when I took this apart but obviously that was way to optimistic. So now I'm looking for a good price on a manifold and riser. The cheapest I've found so far is $750.00 for the manifold and $150.00 for the riser, plus shipping. Anyone got a line on something cheaper? It seems that this is not a common part anymore and they're expensive.

Not sure which one you have, but these guys had the best prices when I bought parts a few years back for an I/O. There aftermarket parts, but seem to be good quality.

I think ther may be a cast iron aftermarket manifold that will replace the aluminum one, I'll check around adn see what I can find. If you can't get anywhere ebasicpower.com, try calling them( I hate their sire), they don't allways have everything on the site. They are very helpfull and may come up with an answer

Ouch is right. I just did the buy it now on the used manifold and riser. $210.00 for both as compared to $900.00 for new. I know they won't as long but If I can get a couple of years out of them, I'm good. If something major in the engine or outdrive goes this could become good bracket / outboard project and then I'll be glad I didn't spend The $900.00. Oh well its a boat, this is part of the fun, right?

Thanks, Spare and Ferm for looking

Default coolant leak

Hi;;if the 165hp you have is loseing coolant it is proberlly from the water pump cam seals the 165 170 470 motors are famous for this and if it is not corrected it will leak into the oil and destroy the motor... there is a weep hole between the seals and thats where you are probably loseing coolant ,,,looking at the front of the motor he weep hole i located on the left side/front a good way to check is whipe a white paper towl down there if there coolant that your problem ..just google 470 motors (coolant leak) and it will be more detailed....Bksah2

the weep hols is down low on the front of the engine, if it is open, then any coolant that leaks past the first seal will go out the weep hole and alert you that it is leaking before it gets past the second seal, some times the weep hole will get clogged adn you won't know you have a problem till you notice you have water(coolant) in your oil. Its not that big of a problem to fix if it is bad( its not that easy either).
