The problem is, like Sea Ray's, Bayliners just don't have the structrual integrity for a project like this. You can build up the transom all you want, but in the end, unless you go through and beef up the stringers and add another 1/2" of glass to the entire bottom, the thing is not gonna work. The new engine will probably torque the hull in two. At the very least you're definitely looking at seperation of the stringers from the hull because there just isn't enough tabbing connecting them. Sorry man, but I think it's a lost cause.

What do you mean A project like this the boat had a V8 in it with a mercruiser the outdrive went bad so the guy that had it cut the hole bigger to put a volvo penta drive on it then he bought a trophy with no engine or lower unit so he pulled everything from the bayliner and put it in the trophy now the bayliner has a bigger hole in it and I need to fix the whole to put a mercruiser back on it |

Well you have gone this far might as well keep going.
After you get all the wood out an the glass clean, glass all your new wood in, then throw in some Knee boards for extra support. 2 part foam can be had in most boat places, and on line. Just one thing, be careful of foam, to much in a tight space it will push out and torque things out of wack! People have bubbled there floors with the stuff in the past!!

eugene1e, there is a good book from West Marine
that explains a lot of what is being explained here. It is not that expensive and really informative. Here is a screen shot of the front cover:

I was trying to find some knee board pic here, I know there were here some place?
But any way what you do is take a board and attach it to the stringers, and against the transom glass all in, this will give the transom extra strength. I drew this one, you should get the idea
