Transom Modification
Ok heres the deal I have a 1978 20ft bayliner Liberty I had no motor are out drive when I got it I have recently bought a mercruiser 350 with mercruiser stern drive I just found out that the gut that had the boat before my cut a bigger hole in the Transom for a Volvo penta drive my ? is how would I go about fixing this so I mount the mercruiser stern drive.
Are is there an adapter I can buy for this Thanks for your help |
Re: Transom Modification
OK, Ill give this a shot. Take the hull and cut out the WHOLE transom. Now lay the old outdrive on the deck of the boat close to the transom (maybe even slightly hanging off). Now launch hull into a deep boat ramp and drive off.
Congrats on a Job well done. ;D |

Re: Transom Modification
I would think you'd have to rebuild the whole transon and from what Stinky said I don't think he has a high regard for Bayliners. Once you rebuild the transom you then cut the correct size hole. Billy Mac

Re: Transom Modification
There is a reason we are called Wellcraft V20!!
But if you drive or tow in this matter, your Bayliner out to the 10 mile mark due east, they are sinking a chain of Bayliners, they calling it Bay reef ;D I guess they don't have a Bayliner.com ::) |

Re: Transom Modification
Just add some of that there White Contact paper, inside and out, redrill you better then new!! ;D
OK for real now. If the wood you have there now is good (no rot) then what you need to do is this. from the inside of the boat, measure 6 inches bigger all around the hole, take a saw, Square the hole off. Clean the glass well. Now take 2 pieces of 3/4 ply same size of the hole, glass them toghter, Cut new hole now, then glass that into the hole, you good to go! Thats the short story. |
Re: Transom Modification
We can help ya, but ya gotta post some PICS. Thats a fair trade off I think. ;D
