NEED A REEL.

dont doubt the quality of the shimano. and i am sure the jeep liberty is a fine automobile. thier both pretty. they both cost way more than thier worth. and they are both for fags.(no offense). every little rich prep wants one cause thier pretty and expensive. and then they can put a shimano sticker in the back glass of there liberty. wich is fine, if ur a lesbian.

be a man. buy american. get a slammer. none of the frilly foo foo sissy sh!t. just one-helluva tough reel that happens to be butter smooth. get the 4500, spool it with 60 lb spider wire and you can tow ships into harbor with it. no, they aint cheap. but, if you take care of it ur kids kids will fish it too. and its got that MADE IN THE U.S.A. sticker on it.

or buy one of those jap outfits, fill ur cooler with wine coolers, and dont forget ur 200 dollar costa del mar's. now ur in hte click!

Ive got a fin nor like that and the drag is in constant need of repair it seems. *It didnt hold up as well as I had hoped it would. *Its spent a good bit of time at the tackle shop getting drag washers and other repairs. *Just my experiance, others may vary..
I also dont have any problem buying american. I would prefer to. But im not going to buy american just for the sake of buying american. Im willing to pay a bit more for an american product of the same quality. But the quality has to be there.

For the last 20 years (for the most part) the only reels in given weight classes (and price) that have been useable for people that work for other people have been:
Spinning, 10-15lb - Shimano
Open faced,12-15lb - ABU Garcia Ambassadeur
Open faced,over 15lb - Penn
For some reason each of these manufacturers have excelled in these weight ranges and have various types of reels in their classes to suite your preferences.
Cost, dependability and option choices in these classes are expanded about 5 fold.

i have always used and depended on penn reels but hear great things about shimano.
would love to go van staal but who the hell can afford them.

I got a Diawa BG 90 and run 50# test on it. I have hooked on some big ones and had to tighten the drag down to bust the line because I was getting spooled.

In spinning reels you cannot beat the Shimano's in my opinion, tough durable in all sizes and smooth. The best drags you can get.
In conventional gear I love Penn, I have about a dozen of them dating back to the first reel my dad bought me around 1964 or so. I use their Squiders, and 2/0 and 3/0 reels and love em. I use their various in between size reels and love them to for their simplicity and ease of getting the overhauled and getting parts to completely repair them. I will say that my experience has been they don't make a good levelwind due to the plastic gear used for the levelwind function which fails a lot under stress. I have two that I took the level wind off and use as straight conventionals now.
if you need a level wind the Shimano's again are the way to go in my opinion or a Abu Garcia which I have two that have held up for years for me and are smooth as silk.
There are other good reels also but for the money you can't beat the above in my opinion, especially with the spinning gear, there are more expensive ones out there but none that will work better than a Shimano period.
I buy American when it is feasible, but I also give credit where credit is due and the Swedes with the Abu's and the Japs with the Shimano's and the Americans with the Penn conventionals are th best value by far.

penn made in japan? say it isnt so! but they have made in the usa stamped right on them. in bright red letters. i knew the prion was an import but, the slammers too. well, it stopped raining and i need to go back to work now. but, i am gonna bummed all day now. is nothing sacred?
