I run the first half of my trip on "1" then switch to "2" for the rest of the day. Don't run on both because you could end up with 2 dead batteries.
I'd like to hook up an Isolator which allows you to keep the switch on "1" but WILL charge both batteries. See link. http://www.jerrylabella.com/ship_shape2.htm
