What kind of experience do you have with these type of projects? Just curious, I had very little and my project is coming along nicely albeit slow. I really like getting my fiberglass and fillers from boatbuildercentral.com and I get my epoxy resin from U.S. Composites. I bought my fiberglass rollers from Tap Plastics. I bought a whole arsenal but only use the 3/8" x 2" roller for rolling out the glass after wetting. I believe Kracker went with poly or vinylester resin for his rebuild. He can probably give you the best source for those products. Now back to gas. Here in the great state of NC we have some of the highest gas taxes in the country. This enables us to have nice roads and NO TOLL BOOTHS. Considering my highway gas is bought by my employer and I spend far more money on boat gas, I think I like your way. Problem now is they want to build toll booths here as well ("the way we did it up North") but you know those taxes won't come down. Welcome again Jay, sorry to hijack your thread.

No. North Carolina. I have a little knowledge of glassing, but not on boats. Custom Stereo installs, lol. So I am an absolute newbie. I'll need all the help I can get. Yup. I plan on redoing from the deck down and the console. Are there any threads or videos for going to a 25" transom? Looks like the process differs from that of other boats as far as replacing the transoms on these girls. I did see a recent thread that was posted (the one with the chainsaw), but wasn't sure what was going on in the photos. Looks like there was some kind of filler being poured in. |

You got the jist of the chainsaw to transom right, that one was poured with Arjay. Looks like the one you got from Skools has an extra high transom in it already. That is how I would do my new transom, although a little shorter:-) Welcome aboard!

Thanks. At first I was going to combine boats, but after seeing all the options here. I think I'd like two boats. I've been bitten by the bug. 2nd boat would be a good project and gift to my son. I'm going to work on the the all white one first though. |

back the 20 inch offset with a piece of mdf board with release wax or a piece of melamine board. this backer allows you to layup up your glass and then unscrew leaving just the fiberglass to the height of the 25" side. do this on the inner liner and the outer liner, gring the new glass down even with 25" transom height and then do your pour. There are some good transom pour videos on youtube. If you go back with a wood core then just put your core material back to a full 25" transom then glass the 20" offsets on the inner and outer skin. When I came on this forum I hardly knew squat about any major glass work. I did ALOT of research on the internet and asked alot of questions. One thing I will say is to take your time, and learn all can about cloth weight and application, and additives and thickeners such as cabosil. these items are pretty important. these guys on here have a crap load of knowledge to be able to help you thru this build. I also joined other forums just to get other ideas and research material. good luck on your build we are all here to help you with whatever you need.
