Hey Guys, made it through Irene! Had lots of wind and rain. It shreaded my big pecan trees and we lost some shingles but we're OK. We lost power Saturday morning and just got it back on today. Got a tornado warning this afternoon at Nucor in Hertford co. Got some terrible rain and howling wind. We all ran to the tornado shelter for 20 minutes and it passed above the mill. That'll make the hair stand up on the back of your neck! I'm off for four days, got alot of yard cleaning to do, and I'm ready for some nice calm weather!!

Yeah...there's a lot of pissin' and moanin' about the media over-blowing Irene...but for some of the worst hit areas in VT and others, I bet they don't think it was overblown at all...

I've found there are those who are gonna complain no matter what...

This was the worst flood we've ever had. Worse than the 1984 flood that everyone used as a reference point. Lost everything in the basement when the foundation wall cracked due to the hydraulic pressure of the water and let the water pour into the basement through the crack. It simply overwhelmed my sump pumps. Appears that the house may have shifted about an inch. Havent told the wife yet, she's a wreck as it is. Real trooper, making due without hot water, no indoor plumbing (septic system is full) and yet she's putting food on the table and making plans.
Boiler, washer/dryer/workshop/tools/walls/paneling/lights/everything is gone. Waiting to see if they condem the house because of the foundation wall. Either way we're moving. Neither my wife or myself can take it any more. Took it 26 years, but the river's finally won. The water is still 4 feet deep in the street in front of my house, and about a foot deep around my house. My house is a raised ranch, so the main floor with all the furniture etc stayed dry.. So God spared us that much. I guess he has different plans for us than to stay here.

destroyer, that sucks. Sorry to hear of your situation. If you go back to CTTs map [page 2], I am waterfront at Sunken Meadow state park. The terrain here is a bit more wooded and not as flat like the south shore is. Floods here aren't the concern as much as tree damage. CTT, I am surprised, and happy, to hear you didn't get murdered by the storm surge. I was w/o electric/cable/phone for five days. Even the cell phones didn't work. The "HURRICANE" wasn't nearly as bad as what was to be expected. I think our strongest wind gust was around 58mph and the 8-10" of rain predicted was more like 3- 4". I threw the cover on the pool sat. morning and had two generators gassed up and ready.[ you couldn't buy gas without waiting 1/2 an hour to get to pumps] No trees down in my yard, one garbage pail of sticks/leaves and one 50 lb. tree branch. I thought the power would back on the next day. WELL..., not the case. I couldn't believe that a good portion of Long Isalnds electrical grid was in ruins from a wimpy tropical storm. We got lucky as far as floods and wind damage and i count my blessings. My power came back on just a few hours ago but many are still without. Good luck to all who didn't fare as well.
