The main reason VA and NC couldn't agree had to do with Tuna reg's and Striper reg's (Va wanted NC to have slot reg's on striper and also wanted NC to change their reg's to always mirror VA). The striper reg's were based upon Chesapeake Bay waters and we don't connect to Chesapeake Bay. They wanted us to have slot size in the ocean but told us they would talk to the neighboring state North to also follow these rules but they (VA) would not implement the rules until both states either side of them did.

I was at the meeting in OBX when our Marine Patrol discussed this and had a representative from VA there and he said everything I described. So it was a no win situation for NC because then we would only be able to fish during a set time and have a closed time during the best months for the ocean and reduce our limit from 2 fish to 1.

But the real crap to this VA wants you to register your boat in VA but they still want you to buy a non resident boat sticker at twice the price of residents. If I was going to register my boat in VA (which I wouldn't)( I live in another state) then I shouldn't have to buy a non resident license.

I'll just buy a non resident salt water fishing lic for $26. Almost everyone that goes with me from NC buys their own out of state fishing lic anyway So VA just lost $12 (difference between Boat sticker cost and non resident lic cost) and I gained $12.

The whole thing does not make sense but we are dealing with goverment. VA like NC does not have a slot limit on stripers in the ocean they just have to be over 28" two per person like in NC and the only difference is NC is year round where we are from May 16th to March 31st. I could see Va wanting the size limit to mirror each other for the ocean because its often that we put in at Va beach but fish over the NC line and vise versa. Having NC mirror our Bay regulations does not make sense because if your fishing in the bay you did not put your boat in at NC and fishing the bay you would have put in VA and would have to follow our regulations. I just think both sates wanted the additional $$$$$ so they they say its the other states fault.

I live in Memphis, and have hunted /fished on the Mississippi River, which is Tn. on one shore and Ark. on the other side and a little south Miss. Upon inquiring on what lic. I needed, I was told that it depended on where I launched my boat. I also fish at Pickwick Lake which is where Tn., Ms., and Ala. come together, and understand either state lic. is good on the lake (between damns) on the Tennessee River. They will recipicate.

Yes it is. What happen to the good old days when we could leave Va. Beach and head for the Va/NC line without any worries about this crap. You could come down go fishing and not have to worry about buying a fishing lic. I just think both states want the extra cash.
