Default V-20 Outboard HP performance question......

Just getting ready to mount a Johnson 1989 Johnson 140hp VRO to a Gil bracket on my V-20.......I wanted a 175hp but got a good deal on this motor... my v20 is a little heavier than some...4stroke kicker, aluminum hardtop (150lbs)...misc. fishing hardware...however I removed all the I/O crap and the the Gil bracket is aluminum...so I think I will be a couple hundred pounds lighter with this new set up...the weight will also be distributed further aft...what type of performance can I expect from a good running johnson 140ho vro?
Thanks for the Input...
Mike

I'm not sure about the johnson but my merc 135 gets up to 35 mph in calm water. It would probably be a bit faster if my bottom paint wasn't so rough. If high speed isn't you're main priority you'll probably do fine with that set up.

The 140 should do between 30 and 35mph easy.
The hull on these things makes them get on a plane real easy, even loaded, the added horse power just makes them go faster.
Not sure if there will be anything different with the bracket.
Keep and eye on the VRO, minute it gives you trouble, start mixing the gas.

My 1991 Johnson 200hp was professionally remanufactured by Quality Outboards in Englewood, Fl. They really do great work and they warrantee their work for two years. Right in their warrantee they state: Quote " *NOTE*: All oil injection systems are disconnected from motors before they leave Quality Outboards. Reconnection of oil injection systems voids all warranties, implied or written" Unquote.
Somehow I think they must know something...

Default VRO Disconnect.....Fuel mixing question>?

yeah it seems to be running rich anyhow....plugs are pretty oily...I already planned on disconnecting the plug from the vro and mixing fuel etc....

A Question... My Main fuel tank is approx 50 gallons (midship under the deck) will the mixed fuel seperate in the tank or is it ok to mix a big batch>? My kicker is a 4stroke but It runs on a 20 gallon saddle tank.

It's ok to mix a big batch. Once mixed the fuel/oil mixture will not seperate, even while stored. Follow the proper ratio for your engine. As a precaution, be sure to use Stabil in your fuel, especially if you plan to store your boat for any lenght of time. Personally, I always put it in, it's a small price to pay for the peace of mind.

I have a Yamaha 200 2stroke on my CuddyCab., 50mph easily, but SCARY !!!! but I wish I had a smaller less gas drinking motor, like a 130-150. I use external 6 gal red tanks, and I am SOOO glad I do. Clogged carbs-water in Tank problems killed at its root. Boat is light now, so I love her even more. Yeap, the calibrated jar with a cap, is a GREAT investment !!! Get the one with the cap, that way it`ll stay clean without any care. "Oil injection, what is that ?"

I have a new VRO pump, however I never use the VRO portion of it from day one, I pre-mix period one less thing to worry about.
I am turning a 13 3/4 x 17 trim all the way down its a stainless prop and from my observation I need to increase to at lease a 13 3/4 x 19 or 20?
I can't be sure just yet since I am yet to set the WOT timing on my new power head I do not allow it to pass 5k rpm and I know it has more to go on the throttle..
