Default Fuel Sender/Fuel gauge

Was figuring out my wiring this weekend looking into what works, what doesn't and why.....Once I finally got DC voltage restored to the fuse blocks at the helm I notice that I have what I am calling a "momentary" toggle switch on the dash that when pushed forward and held, the fuel gauge registers. When I let go of it the fuel gauge shuts down.

Is this normal?

Depends on what you got or want.
Mine has a selector switch for starboard or port tank with only one gauge.
You sure that ain't for the horn??

I have seen boats set up like that before but could not figure out why it was rigged that way. Mine comes on with the key and cuts off with the key.

nope not for the horn...have another momentary switch wired to the horn (or at least where the horn used to be)

Cool, it did look like mine was originally set up that way and not that someone modified it....my theory is that the gas gauge is original to the boat regardless of what kind of outboard power and controls were put on it so it was powereed by the boats electrical system rather than the outboards.....I guess having it on a momentary switch would prevent you from accidently leaving it powerered up and draining your battery? Either way Its not a problem really , I never rely on the gauge anyway and I can always check the level whenever I want....just wanted to make sure something funky wasnt going on.

never had a working gauge in any of my boats and still don't. They are such a pain in the a!! just fill up after a few trips and get a feel for how much gas you use, before you know it you will know how much each trip uses with in a gal.
