I was warned about that drive gear when I bought the boat. Pretty much ignored the guy, wouldn't you know it, he was in the boat when the gear gave out!

Mine gave up that stupid nylon drive gear right in the Long Beach harbor over a dozen years ago. Had it neutered the next week & it's still running strong.

Like Phat says we get that occasionally, when the green water pushes close getting to be that time of year too. Over toward Mexico beach it's pretty common, the continental shelf comes closest there.

Not a V-21, best my v-20 cuddy has done is 48mph, empty, in a flat calm river and trimming it out best I could.

Like others are saying, I rarely see water that flat, running 28 or so is just fine.
