Default Mercury 4-stroke

I have 2001 mercury 15hp 4-stroke. It needs a new lower unit. I have found a lower unit, but it's a 2006. Does anyone know if the two are compadable? Thanks again for all the help.

I can't answer your question, but make sure before you buy the new lower unit. The 2001 is most likely a Yamaha rebadged with Merc stickers.
My 2001 Merc 90 Four Stroke has a Yamaha power head.

Yeah, my motor is a yamaha painted merc black. Has Merc started making their own 4-stroke kickers?

OK, mine is OT289618, and the other one is 1B367985. How can you tell? Is there somewhere to cross reference?

I haven't been able to find anything past 1998 for the year references, at least for those motors.
The best I've found are parts lists and they start with serial numbers 0G and up. 0T and 1B should be a continuing series of the same thing but I have no reference proof.
If you do find a year reference for them, post the site.
Here is what most sites have.

Of course, now that I need it, the online Merc. Parts website I have used to cross referance in the past is down for updates. Does anyone know of a good site that would verify this matter for me? Tsubaki-- you got further than I did and I thank you for your time.

That was stuff I had about a year ago, some of the other sites are now gone.
I couldn't find anything to help your cause and yes the few sites that had Merc stuff were temporarily down.
