Default She's In! Now some questions

I finally got my boat in the water today. At first we maxed out at 14 mph, but after 5 minutes all of a sudden it surged up to 26 mph. My guess is there was some junk in the carbs that needed to get cleaned out. What kind of speed should I expect from this boat with a 135 hp merc v6?

Default Good goin

Sounds more like possible fouled plugs that finally straightened out.
Not sure what a 135 should do.

I agree with Tsubaki check your plugs. When was the last time the boat was run? how old is the gas? was it treated before it sat? is there a water seperator anywhere that you can change and there is probably a filter under the hood the motor somewhere. I wouldn't be expecting any major speed with a 135 but the good news is better gas mileage.

Good Luck

Were you at full throttle? My guess would be 30 to 35, 1 or 2 normal weight people. Not like MJ or myself, and not a full tank of gas. Good Luck with her. Billy Mac

I would think around 35 mph light, like Mac said.

Get you some new plugs and give it another shot.

I can't remember what the speed on mine was while Granddaddy and then Daddy owned it.
Seems like the 125 did near 25 and the 140 did under 35.

That was the first time it ran in 3 years. I changed the fuel filters, new gas (full tank) new plugs. Compression was an even 100 psi tested cold so I'm thinking its just needs to be cleaned out or possibly an adjustment to the timing/sync. since i don't know when that was done last. I'm just glad it ran at all.

dont know what year she is but at some point the manufactures stopped measuring at the crank and started measuring at the prop first of all. With 130 at the prop assuming it is propped right(what rpm were you hitting max) you should be in the 32-35 range.
If it measured on your engine at the crank then you should good running to be high 20's.
