talked w/ a guy last season about his 8 hp 2 cyl. Johnson,1995. Says he wants 450-500.....I say lemme think about it. That was last season. About two weeks ago, I'm doing a job in the same neighborhood and I swing pass 'ol Dans house to see if he still has the motor. He's right out in the front yard and I ask him. He tells me late last season the boat sunk at the dock of course taking the motor w/ it. He says it was under water for about 3-4 hours, he retrieved it and immediately administered first aid, then put it away for the season. Mid April [ this year] he tries to start it and it's locked up.....he says to me ,"ya wann it?" I look it over briefly and say sure, into the truck it goes. Get it home, put a breaker bar and socket on the flywheel, click it into gear and put my foot on the prop. It came loose in about 2 seconds. Next I check for spark....good spark....Through on the gas line and it comes to life on the 3rd pull. Will only run on full choke but really doesn't stay running. Drop the gas out of the bowl, things don't look to sanitary so I go 19.00$ for a carb rebuild kit and cleanout. Bolt the carb back on squeeze the ball and it starts on the first pull! Amazing. Idles like a sewing machine, strong piss stream and revs nicely. Gonna bolt it up to the tin boat to see how she does under load. If she passes the tin test....I've got my kicker for just under twenty bucks.

Kewl...did he say what sunk the boat?
BTW That motor should help keep your boat from sinking - lightening never strikes twice in the same spot

chuck,...... not for sale......not yet anyway. Plus you'll need about 16.00 for gas. Blue, the guy told me that he was tied onto a municipal dock and some clammer dude untied it and moved it out of "his" way. This was at dead low tide and clammer dude didn't leave enough line out for the incoming tide. Soooo, you know the rest. Anybody have any helpful input on a bracket for it? It's a long shaft [20"]. Is it a common practice to use the main motor as a rudder while trolling or should I tilt up the main motor and use the tiller on the kicker?

Nice find Phester! I'd clamp it on the back and use the main engine as a rudder. Less moving parts to bother with. Just my 2 cents.

I was able to pinch a few hours away from a job today and had to see how this motor would preform in real world condition's . To this point I've only run it in a garbage pail of water and all seemed well. I put this 20" motor on my tin boat that has a 15" transom, so I wasn't expecting any "real performance". Gotta tell ya I was very happy how she went. It did get the boat up on plane although it felt like I had 800lbs. of gear in the boat. It ran great, starts right up, strong piss stream, shifts perfect and she topped out at about 15mph and I still had a little left in the throttle [didn't want to push it to hard given the 20" leg] Overall I'm very pleased and it is now officially the kicker motor. I even did a Seatow.....I towed in a 1950 Bayliner Cierra w/ a 125[?] Force. He says he had a dead battery so I dragged him about 1/4 mile back to the ramps. The guy told me that four other larger boats [larger than my 8 h.p. 15' Duranautic] just drove right pass him ignoring his calls for help. That's bad karma man.

Nothing like being at the right place at the right time. This story reminds me of my $20 dirt bike I got last year.
I never pass by a broke down boater, my conscience just wont allow it.
