Default Volvo I/O Help

I have question on I/O outdrive/engine configurations.

If I have a 1998 volvo outdrive that needs a 3.0 or 4.3 engine, can I replace it with a mercruiser block of the same size without many problems?

Any help or advice appreciated

the block is teh same, teh accesories are different, some of them don't make any difference, but some, like the coupler and bell housing will have to be Volvo. The exhaust would also need to be Volvo.i would have to look at the engine to make sure with the rest. Pics?

Pretty much what I thought. Sorry No Pics yet, just trying to determine if it makes sense to purchase the boat understanding that it needs an engine. Lots of Merc 3.0l out there very few Volvo's that I can find! Still trying to determien if the block is still in the boat or not. That would make things much easier.

Thanks

is it an AQ type( large transom plate), or an SX type( looks like the OMC Cobra transom plate, siimular to the Mercruiser). What engine is supposed to be in there? That would make a big difference, some boats set up for I 4's don't have a stringer set up for a V engine. Some boat manufactures even got to the extreme and don't put enough glass in the lower hp set ups to support the power of a larger engine. What kind of boat is it, might not be worth it, might be.

I have to admit I'm not smart enough to provide any valuable answers but if a picture is worth a thousand words, here you go!

They guy is asking $2500 for the boat and trailer but it doesn't have a engine. We are communicating via E-mail at this point and haven't been able to get from him if the old engine in the boat or in piece or lost for ever and think that will have some bearing on my decision. He indicated that in needs a 3.0L for a 4.3L but not what was in it originally.

thats a SX type drive, it wasw an outgrowth from OMC SX drives that Volvo built for OMC after OMC figured out they could't build a decent drive if their life depended on it. The Volvo drive in that boat is a good drive, and as we all know, Wellcraft makes a good boat, but realisticaly, by the time you bought an engine, and had soem one swap it out, you're going to end up with a lot more than its worth. It might be different if you were able to do a majority of the labor, or if you allready had an engine, but for $2500 with a bad motor, that sounds a little high, but a lot depends on what motor is in there

Understand, the big question is the motor (apparently it had a 3.0L previously) and if I could replace with a used 3.0L merc ( $600.00)and do the labor myself it would be a reasonable family runabout for 3200 and and ten year old boat. However, the seller is being very evasive on pictures of the interior so I suspect it is completely trashed which will kill the deal for me.

Thanks for the info.
