Default Hydraulic Trim/Tab Pump

Hello All,

I have a 21' 81 Wellcraft V20 straight 6, 160 hp with Mercruiser stern drive fishing boat.

The trim/tilt pump in my boat is gone. Looks like the electrical is blown or it is ceased. I had someone bench test it for me and it is fried. It will click once and then get hot. I am looking to replace it with a used or rebuilt one. New is just to much $ right now.

My questions are the following:
1) Can mine be rebuilt if it is electrical/ceased?
2) What determines if the pump can or can't be rebuilt?
3) Does the replacement have to be the same exact pump?

Seems to me that as long as the wiring was matched up and the fittings for the 2 hydraulic hoses matched, any pump would do?

Any help would be greatly apprecaited.

Thanks,
Jason

It may not be the pump. Maybe just the pump motor is toast.
The motor and pump assembly should be either a Prestolite or an Oildyne. My guess is that it's an Oildyne pump. There are a few companies that sell new and reman pumps and motors or whatever other parts you may need. Either way, give these guys a try;

I had the Oildyne pump in mine. I think the first site that CB posted is were i got mine from? Been awhile.

Should be the first one on the site under the mercuriser section. $172 is a good price I think mine was about the same.

Good luck

Thanks, but can not do new. No cash for the investment right now. I am already over my budget for this boat this year.

I have no quam using used or repairing. Looking for info on repair and used replacement.

If I go the $172 route, How do I know if mine can be rebuilt. What If I send mine in and they cant rebuild it, then what? I guess $172 is not that bad, though i was hoping to keep under $100.

Check with marine shops or automotive shops for electrical motor rebuild companies. The guys that rebuild starter motors for example would be a good place to check.
