Default 93 Suzuki V6 200HP 2 Stroke

Hey guys,

Can any of you give me some advice as to where you think this leak is coming from? The wet ground is due to the rain, not oil. However, the wetness on the lower unit is oil of some kind. My guess would be that it's tranny oil, but I don't know for sure.

it may just be 2 stroke oil coming from the exhaust. There's no gasket between thelower unit's and midsection's. Just keep a check on the lower unit oil if it's staying clean and full don't worry about it.

Hi Maco,

No, there's no oil there on the ground, but there were a few drips a while back.

Thanks guys, I will do as yo said and see what happens.

By the way, how difficult is it to replace a water pump on one of these things?

After the auction for my boat ends, I plan on putting the pair up for sale.

Impeller is probably the simplest maintenance job there is on an outboard aside from changing lower unit oil IMHO. If all goes well, you could have it done in an hour or less. You might need a friend to help you get it back on. The larger the motor the heavier the lower unit. I've done 60hp and 70hp motors by myself but I needed help on the Johnson 140hp. The key is to make sure you get all the bolts out before trying to pull it off! I learned that on the 70.

This is where the manual comes in handy becuase the naked eye may or may not see a hidden bolt here or there. Also to make sure you twist the new impeller in in the housing in the right direction, otherwise it won't pump h2o and you might damage the brand new impeller on the first try.

About the oil leak, Skool and Maco gave good advice there ;)

I got to tell you that the leak is very odd to me, it does not look like it is coming from the motor, it looks like something dripping down from above or in slightly in front like power trim hydraulics or something. I mean look at where it is, how can oil from engine get where those stains are? Maybe a fuel leak?

Fuel leak, yes that is very suspicious coupled with the fact that when you ran the motors they seem to not get enough gas...mabye cause its leaking out of the carbs or fuel lines somewhere? If that's the case though, you should be able to see the gas leaking with the cover off when you turn it over.

Hi Willy,

Yes, it seemed odd to me as well, that's why I thought I would ask you all who have much more experience...

My first thought was just as you have noted; I thought it was coming from somewhere above, but I can't find anywhere above that is dripping. The hydraulic lines are dry.

I had thought it was maybe because it was missing a small capped hose like the other one has, but after further research I came to find that the hose is actually for the speedometer, so... ???

I will look into it more in a couple of days and I will tell you what I find.

Thanks again for all of your help.

And remember when your looking that any fuel that is leaking from fuel pump, lines or carbs maybe running down inside and may take awhile to seep thru , especially if the engine is slighty tilted up.
