I/O question.

The short story is I kinda wrecked my upper gear box and it needs to be rebuilt. I don't want to run it in it's current condition (metal shavings and galled up gears). But, I want to get some fuel stabilizer run through the fuel system. Can I run the engine with the outdrive removed if I hook up the hose to the water line coming from the outdrive? How can I do that if so? Thanks for any input.

I don't know much about outdrives, but as long as ya got water goin' to the water intake, can't imagine why not...now it's just a matter of sizing a water-hose to the size of the intake...or you could put a big drum of water w/ in reach of the motor and run in/ out hoses to that...

Been a long time for me since dealing with I/O's. And, I never came across the need to run the motor without the outdrive on. If memory serves correctly, aren't there a couple of water tubes coming out of the coupling that go to the motor. I would think you could rig a hose with a clamp to the tubes and run it without any problems. ???

If you only going to run it for a few min. thwen its ok to start with no water.

Its like your car, you can run till t heats up a little. With the out drive off there is no worry about the water pump in the lower unit.

But there is no need to get it running more then a few min for what you want to do!!

After you shut it down, remove plugs add Mystery Oil to each hole replace plugs and remove coil wire,(so motor won't start) turn motor over a min to coat all cylinders and that motor good for years of storage!

YES, YOU CAN ATTACHE A HOSE TO ANY INLET ON THE ENGINE AND RUN IT FOR A FEW MINUTES WITHOUT THE OUTDRIVE.

THE ONLY REASON YOU CAN NOT RUN IT DRY WITH THE OUTDRIVE ON IS BECAUSE YOU WILL BURN THE IMPELLER IF RAN DRY.

You could follow the water inlet line towards the engine mounted pump and hook into it there. They even make flush kits that "t" into that line.
