Default matching gelcoat

I'm trying to patch up my 79 V-20, I checked with Spectrum Color for matching gelcoat, their listing only goes back to 85, do the 85-92 boats have a different color( its white) than the earlier boats? Does anyone have a better solution for matching the gel? ???

Take some white gelcoat, and add a tinting agent till the color matches, take a little dab and wipe it on the area you are trying to match. once you get it to match, then add the hardner.

You can try here http://www.minicraft.com/ but be aware that it probably still won't completely match due to the age/fading of your boat.

just trying to get it close, i can tint it to match if I have a decent start, Spectrum comes pretty close to matching, i've used their gels to match quite a few other boats and have been pleased , i just need to know if the 85 and later color is the same as the earlier colors

Ah, didn' realize that Minicraft only went back to 85. Try emailing Wellcraft. I did not too long ago and was surprised how quick they responded.

I used minicraft gelocat for patching holes when I had my 1988 v20 steplift.

https://www.minicraft.com/retail/wellcraft.htm

Glacier Grey was the hull color
Phantom Grey was the floor color

They have a gelcoat matching service . . .

I think the hull color was the same in 79, but I don't know for sure. Maybe they'll send you a sample batch.
