I hate to see it happen but the old pier just went on the market for a cool $35 million...The North Carolina outerbanks is changing from a family fishing vacation spot to an old fart retirement community with nothing for little kids or families on small incomes to enjoy..No more drive ins, the campgrounds and amusement parks are pretty much gone and this is the second pier to sell out in 3 months to greedy developers who will stop at nothing to throw up million dollar plus condos. Here in Beaufort they successfully bought out the last trailer park with a water view and evicted dozens of low income families who watched as they tore down their homes. I'm sure this happens all over the country but I hate to see it..I think they call it PROGRESS...Frank

Frank, that kinda ''progress'' is hard to watch...once the sales are complete and all the evictees are safe and gone...maybe a Cat-5 hurricane will make landfall on that pier and ''crimp'' their investment... ::) ...

You hear those stories every day down here in florida. Last year when the market was still hot people were buying condos pre-construction and flipping them 3 or 4 times before the damn things were completed. The problem with condos on the beach is that most of them are empty most of the time. All the small affordable hotels and motels sell out and the whole beach economy dries up. Who wants to take their family to the beach that has no restuarants, affordable lodging, or marinas with deep sea fishing boats. Instead you have old geezers who live somewhere else 6 or 7 months out of the year and a bunch of wanna be real estate moguls. Sorry for my rant! >:(
