Seriously, I don't think I'll ever have the need for a 12 footer. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to roll up next to a brand new V21 in my ol '72 and open up the prettiest 12 foot spread as the next guy, but really my 6 footer does the job well. The best way to learn is to watch somebody and practice. I use the "teeth" method, meaning I use my teeth to hold part of the net. I find this method to be the best, but what do I know?

I wouldn't recommend starting with a 12 footer either, but I'm sure I don't have to tell you that. Start anywhere between 3 - 6 ft, whatever you have available or what you feel most comfortable with. I've save a ton of $$ by using my net. Heck the only bait I use on the Lake is shad that I catch in my net!

I love cast nets! All I need is an ice maker! So I don't have to buy ice! Course I do rob my freezer's automatic ice maker from time to time!

BR,

I can throw the little 3 footer fine. Its good around here in the fall for baby "peanut" bunker which you can usually find in between slips in marinas.

I picked up a 6 footer and cant throw it at all yet. The throw is different with the bigger net. I have been trying to use the method shown on calusa.com. Any tips?

If somebody can tell me how to post a DVD I've got one of a guy tossin' a 20'er w/a technique that's like tossin' water out of a 5 gal bucket...no teeth...no shoulders...can also toss it back OVER his shoulder... :o 8)...

Is there somewhere I can post this?...

I used to fish w/a striper guide...told on himself...took a party out one morning, tossed his net perfectly over school of bait...forgot to loop end of rope on his hand...all he could do was watch a new $120 cast net sink into the depths... :P :'(...

I can throw an 8 footer fairly decent. My nephews from North Carolina showed me. If the wind is right, the shrimp get blown onto their side of the river and we castnet 'em up. When I go for distance though, it tends to get ugly...
