Hey do any of you use one of these permanent mounted remote spotlights on your boat. I was looking at them in boaters world any they look pretty neat. For around $100-$150 you can get a fairly nice one.

I have a hand held spotlight. I don't stay out after sun set floating debris comes up on you fast even with a light. Bill Mc ;D

I no 2 people that have them, One still uses his and carries a handheld also.
The other took his off and sold it. Now has a handheld. I have a 1,000,000 candle power handheld. The problem with permanent mount lights is that they are limited to were you can point them. Much easier to use a handheld to pin-point what you want to see. And you will not be able to put the light behind you, if it is mounted on the bow. Save the cash for something else and get a nice Handheld!

I fish at night a lot and use lights at a bare minimum. I had a boat in the past that had a permanantly mounted remote control light to aim via the remote. The problem I have is with the "splash" of light that hits the deck and railings and whatnot in front of you and ruins your "nightvision". A good GPS with cartography will guide you through the night just fine. I utilize the GPS until I get into the harbor, then break out the rechargable handheld to weave around all the moorings.
Once you're out there in the dark and your eyes adjust to it, you'd be surprised how much you see without lights. Oh btw; Using lights all the time will kill everyone else's vision on the water at night as well.

I had one on the Grady Seafarer I had. (I still miss her... :'( ) Anyway, it was neat to have as it was rail mounted on the end of the pulpit, so I didn't screw up my night vision with it being too close. The remote buttons can only give you so much aiming control on a moving boat. A handheld spotlight is going to have way better beam control. You could sort of leave it on and pointed down to try and see crab pot buoys, but not to see where you wanted to go. Other than that, it was only turned on briefly to find unlit markers, etc. and get your bearings, but a handheld would accomplish the same thing.

Cool I appreciate all the responses and i was wondering how much sense one would make. I currently have several good handhelds so I will just stick with those. ;D
