Default V21 Rod Holder Setups

I'm in need of adding more rod holders to the V-21. I would appreciate input from some of the board's V-21 owners as to how they have handled the situation.

Would like to end up with 6 holders for feeshun and maybe 4 more for just holdin the rods. Currently set up in basic fashion with the 4 flush mount factory holders in the gunnels.

I'm probably gonna go ahead and get a couple of rail mount clamp on jobs, mainly for fishing while anchored to mount up front on the bow rail - one on each side. These won't be too good for trolling, unless you plan on trolling straight the whole day! Those will be sweet cause you can slide that cuddy door all the way up and have great access to them and start the fight on the fish right there while your 1st mate clears the rods for you!

I do have a 4 spot rocket launcher type that would go accross the back, right where the removeable transom door is, but the way the holder is designed won't allow to have my 94qt cooler back there too.

I've got some ideas, but mainly want to hear from ya'll to see if there is something I wasn't thinking about.

Oh yeah, MJ I know you are gonna point out that one on the outside of your cockpit coaming - that's sweet, but the V-21 doesn't have enough coaming to do that, so that's out the window.

I got rod boxes too, so don't know about more on the gunnels. Plus, I'm too chicken $hit to cut a big hole in my gunnel.

Thanks

I wasn't going to point that out! LOL *thats for storage, you want holders.
I have 6 holders, 2 on the rear deck, 4 in the gunnel's. I have the side above tanks so it sucks for space!! I have 2 right after the tanks in the middle of the boat, and I have 2 right by the end of the windshield.
I like the ones at the end on the windshield cause I can drive and wireline at the same time.

I have 4 stand ups on the engin cover and 5 on the gunnle at side you mentioned above 15 rods in all!

I have full transom from the old I/O so I can get 4 easy on the rear if I really want to ;D

Uh, well, I's hopin maybe one of ya'lls girlfriends could hold em for me. ;D

MJ, where to you put a couple a big linesiders in your boat? Have you got a fish-box under the engine cover? Best I remember you kept a 20 gal. auxillary tank in there?

So where do the big boys go? My port side fish box will hold 3 or 4 and ice, but I'm lookin to limit out with 3 or 4 guys, so that could be as many as 8 20 to 30 lb stripers ???

That's my problem for the rod holders. Having my 94 qt cooler against the back in addition to the rod holders won't work for me :-[

Ahh.......Thats why I love my vintage 75! No floor gas tank!!
I have 2 fish boxes that will hold 100 pounds fish+Ice!! That is of fluke, sea bass, scup, and 4 Bass each.

Thats 200 pounds with out taking any deck space!! :P I also have the step down with a cover on it and a plug for the floor there also, just incase i have a over flow.

O yea thats a 25 gal tank in the engin whell and 2 20 gal in the side gunnle tanks.

RAP I was bidding on a bag on eBay last week. Took my eye off the ball for one sec, auction ended and I coulda had a 5' bag for under $30! Call me an idiot por favor!

MJ, 4 bass each in those floor boxes? What you catchin - small mouth bass?

I can see a 20 or 30 lber or 2 goin in the stepdown part of the cuddy though. You're right that's a good place on the older V20s, but the "small" bass I'm used to catchin 15 lbs or so with the average being more like 20 + !

You gotta love it when a "small" one is 20lbs!

Here's a pic of 2 day's worth of stripers (3 guys on the boat). We released almost as many as we caught! The two I'm holding are around 25lbs a piece. We didn't lay into any 30's that time. Last year my buddy caught a 42 lber that he had mounted.

Hey Blue, what is the bag limit on striped bass in N.C., and how many inches? Here in N.Y. it's 28 " min., and you may keep a second fish as long as it's 40" or better mid May thru mid December
