I will have to fill up 5 gallon cans to top off the boat. I think I will get stoned to death if I pull the W-craft up to a gas pump right now. I will also have to run 25 miles farther round trip due to Dauphin Island being closed, but I dont care.
I talked to SeaTow today and he is up and going...thats all I was waiting on. IM GOING!!! A guy went out this past weekend and limited out on snapper...caught two dolphin and a 58lb wahoo..all within 25 miles of shore. :o

GO AHEAD, STINKY!!!...fish like there's NO tomorrow!...h-ll, there might not be!!!...
Saw fly-over news video of Dauphin Island...musta been a beautiful place...what I saw looked like they need to re-name it to Dauphin Shoals :o...you could barely make out the road (under water) and the houses that were still standing on their stilts had water ALL the way under 'em...NO exposed land above water anywhere...hope it's gone back to normal... ;)...

Let me start this off by saying that fishing for 16 hours with little to no sleep is HIGHLY OVERATED! ::)
As most of you know we could not launch from Dauphin Island due to its being closed so I went to the closest spot I could, Fowl River. We got to Fowl River about 12am Saturday morning. We unfortunately had to wait for our accompanying boat and they didn’t arrive until roughly 2:30am. I wasn’t on my own boat or I would have been gone. ::) I was with a friend and the guy we were waiting on was his son. The boat we were on belonged to one of my vendor’s from work and is also a good friend of mine. He has a Bayliner Trophy 21 with a 150 Optimax. His name is Ronnie. While we waited I hopped in the cabin and was just about to doze of when you guessed it, they pulled up. (I knew that would happen). Anyways they took another 45 minutes or so to load the boat and get things in order so we just waited around. While waiting my buddy Brandon took one of if not THE nastiest falls I’ve ever seen. He fell over the bow rail trying to step on the dock from in front of the cabin. He fell down at least five feet and landed completely on his face and chest. No hands to stop him at all. He didn’t respond for at least 30 seconds because he was knocked slightly unconscious. I finally got a response from him and it was for at least the first minute or so, just a slight groan. We finally established he was ok enough to stand and he did. We then doctored up to 2” gash on his elbow, picked the wood out of his knee, arm, and shin, and then he laid down for a bit. A short while later he was ok and assured us he was still going fishing. We said a quick prayer and were off. We left out of the mouth and headed into the bay. We saw a couple pieces of debris but nothing major. We did notice a broken off marker piling (green I think) just above the waterline. I have since notified the Coast Guard and they said they would take care of it. It is just about 1 mile or so out of the mouth heading to the main channel. It was a little rough and the guy I was with (his boat) was not comfortable running in the conditions. He is fairly new to saltwater fishing and has not captained his own boat much. He has not even had it that long. We hooked up to a buoy and slept a little while till daylight. By first light we had all had just enough rest to piss off our bodies and give us all lingering headaches. We popped open a couple MRE’s that he had onboard and chowed down. Let me take this time to tell you those things are pretty good. First hot breakfast of Meatloaf and gravy with onions that I’ve ever had on a boat and it rocked! The wind was now a little less fierce and more North than East so we made the 20 minute or so run to the mouth of Mobile Bay. By the time we got to the rig for bait it was really rough. While hooked up catching bait, we took a beating. While we were about to leave as we had enough bait Brandon took his second fall of the morning. He was not having a good time. ;D ![]() I then located the source of the problem and quickly ate the banana I had brought before we headed any further. ;D We got enough live bait to do some damage and headed south to a rig I like to fish. It was fairly rough. We got there and hooked up. I lost two very big fish to the rig and that was it. We then headed farther south to some bridge rubble. To make a steadily growing post a little shorter, Ill sum it up from here. There was a lot of the following: getting wet, beaten, burned , being the most exhausted I’ve ever been, and almost falling overboard a lot… ??? We caught 4 nice snapper there and some that were just shy of being legal. There was an undersized grouper by our other boat caught and that was it on those. We had a 10’ plus hammerhead in our chum slick and hooked him for a brief second and he broke us off. He kept returning and slashing through the water feeding on chum bits. He sure was beautiful. We made the incredibly long run back (about 35 miles one way) at about 4:00pm. The other boat with Ronnie’s son and his friend stayed a while longer. We were all give out and had to hang it up. I was so tired that I literally could not stand for the ride home and I felt I would fall out of the passenger chair. I just sat on the floor in the back of the boat and took my butt whooping there. In spite of a V6 Merc screaming in my right ear I think I dozed on and off for most of the 1.5 hour ride home. It was all pretty blurry and my memory is cloudy at this point. I do know that at the mouth of the bay they seen a complete roof floating in the water while I was dozing. ::) Here are a couple pics. ![]() I know you cant see my face on this picture, but we could all barely stand at this point, much less operate a camera. ;D ![]() ![]()

Good report Stinky.
What do you think those 2 big fish were that broke you off? Some sound advice - next time get more sleep beforehand!

Tough day fishing. I think we've all had a few of those where nothing goes right and it seems the best solution would have been to stay home. :-[ :P
I never get enough sleep before fishing trips. I get worked up too much! Nice Snappa 8) ::) ;D
