Default Outboard bracket for v-20

Hey guys. long time no post....this site really grew in the past year....real good to see that. Anyways I just acquired another 1988 v-20 cuddy w/ a full transom the problem is the boat came factory equiped with one of those old OMC seadrive 140 hp two stroke. I saw that a couple of guys on the site have brackets by stainless marine and armstrong? ??? I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions as I will be tearing off the old omc sea drive unit and replacing it with a full bracket. Any comments or suggestions will be greatly appreciated :).

Hi Fugazi, good to hear from ya.

Did you get that boat from a guy who lived in st james or smithtown, and docked at burnetts in bay shore?

If so, I was gonna buy that boat this summer, but I stumbled onto my v21 later that day.
Jaysea and I checked it out and the boat (hull) looked really clean. Owner couldn't be there that day to run the moter. Is the seadrive running. I was gonne sell the seadrive on ebay to cover the cost of a bracket. Then repower.

Bracket on the full transom is the best way to go, imho, but I couldn't pass up the deal on my v21.

Do it!! I did it and will never look back!! handles better and rides better and no hassle with that I/O crap!!

I have a stainless bracket on mine with full swim platform, and love it!! I walked into it for $400 about $1500 new. Any of the commercial brackets will work fine I am sure!!

Good luck

Hey guys thanks for the input. I think I'm leaning towards a stainless marine bracket. it's going to be one of those integrated swim platform brackets. I'm inspired by maco joe's project. This boat is actually is coming from key west Fla. and should be in NY by this weekend. Unfortunately I did not see the boat from Burnett's at bayshore. I'll post some pictures on this project.
Chumbucj\ket--

do you have the name or contact info for the guy getting rid of the armstrong bracket?? thanks!!! :)

fugazi I have a question regarding your other boat. When you changed motor how did the extra weight effect your ride etc.

Weight was negligible. I get around at 22-23 mph with four plus miles per gallon of gas. I do reccomend getting the 200 hp four stroke as opposed to the 140 I have. The four strokes are just sluggish and not as peppy as the two strokes. I plan on grabbing a two stroke Johnson 175 Hp for my next project. Hope this info was of help. -- Fugazi :)

Fuguzi - good to hear from you again!! Congrats on the new project . . . I'd love to see some photo's when the boat arrives. The back of the florida Boat Trader had several ads for custom welded aluminum brakets (under $1000), but Capt Jerry's Stainless Marine bracket sure looks real nice.
