RAP - What's up dawg?! My work came along nicely until it stopped recently with the advancing cold weather.

I've got the hull stripped and spackled up all the screw holes with marinetex. Sanded most of em down but still got a few more, not to mention I need to go over a few of em again. As you probably saw before, my trailer is like new again!

My next step - almost did it today - is to buy a fixed position jackplate. I'm looking for the link now. I priced it before and it is $85. Its a 2 piece deal with a 4 or so inch setback and raises the motor a full 5".

Oh, forgot to mention - I got a nice 10" crack in the transom due to those heavy @ss motors hanging on the back. When the cold came along and all that weight I guess it just couldn't take it. I haven't decided yet whether I'm going to fix it myself or take it to someone. I'll post a pic and let the expert (BS) tell me what to do ;D The guy that hung the motors on didn't use any shims, so with the curvature of the transom and the tightening of the bolts it was in a real bind. I'm surprised it didn't crack sooner.

We're going to take the boat down to my dad's shop where he has a lift that we can use to take the motors off. Some decent weather is coming up over the next week or two so I think its about high time to do that!

When the crack is fixed and I get my motor mounted on the jackplate I'm going to take her out on the lake to see how she does. If I'm satisfied with the way she feels I'm going to get the spray-in bedliner deal done to my floor (Linex or GatorGuard - definitely white). Then I just gotta purchase that new Garmin 250 df fishfinder I've been lookin at. If I'm not satisfied, well I might just drive it out to the middle and blow a hole in the bottom of it. Then take my "new" trailer home and put a 2005 V21 on it lol!!!

P.S. Enjoyed readin your fishin posts about the stripers and hybrids ya'll caught!

I say it all the time, but by George this time I really wil....TRY TO POST SOME PICS of my progress (and cracked transome :-[).

Later,
Blue

RAP, I just checked out your 74. I never knew for sure what year mine was, but I'd say there's a very good chance its a 74 as well.

Hey, I like the two boxes with the fueltanks built in. I can't tell from your pics, did you remove the saddle tanks? If so, did you go with some type of supports to replace the support the tanks gave to the sides?

Also, I couldn't tell if that was a 20" transom like mine or a 25"??

Looks nice! When are we going to the OBX? I can be there in 4.5hrs!!!!

Later,
Blue

I have the 75 which is the same as the 74. You don't have to do anything to the sides when you remove the 20 gal tanks. They offer no suport at all.
I still use mine, and I added a 25 gal tank to were the I/O motor use to go.

RAP and Bluerunner, we really should try to meet up on the coast this season. It would be our own little V-20 rally! Let's through some dates around and decide on a spot. I keep my baby in Sneads Ferry so anywhere from WIlmington to Morehead City is in striking distance.
Hell, maybe we can get a few more fellas to commit and make it a real party! ;D
I'll be spending tons of time this month and next getting my old girl ready for the season.

I'll be all over Murrell's Inlet in SC, Wrightsville Beach NC, and the OBX this summer. Where will ya'll be?

At least 7 or 8 trips a year for me give or take. The inlet has been real snotty out of Oregon Inlet and next week's forecast is MOTS (more of the same). Its a real shame those big striped bass are out the all lonely.i :'(

Yeah...I pulled the saddle tanks(hell, don't know why...I'd have had 120gals.... 8)oh I remember now...too much weight ...I'd have to leave the BEER on the bank :o...

Guys, I can only hope those stripers are still up there when I can get away...pretty tied up right now...local trips are hard to squeeze in :(...

A V20 Boat-In does sound fun...OBX kinda central location for all?...

BR, look for number on starboard side at top of transom...last two digits will indicate year model of your hull ;)...

Transom is 20"...keepin' that drain-hole clear... :)

Not to butt in, But

Let me know when you head to the Banks, it's only 5 hours for me. The I/O will love getting down there again...I lived in Hatteras Village for 4 years before moving to VA
