| Sunchaser?  and V-20 trim tabs...

Wow, it's been a hectic few weeks. (Katrina & Rita has made the generator business pretty busy.) I never gave a report on my trim tabs. SO here it is...the readers digest version. GREAT! What a difference! The bot planes at half the speed and in the gulf chop, put the bow down a little and the ride smooths way out. I was going to get some pics, I know skool wanted a couple, but my father-in-law forgot how to work the camera, I think. Next time out... On the Sunchaser, I can hardly find any info at all about a Wellcraft 28.8 Sunchaser. I'm thinking about another project. All I really know is its an inboard w/o engines or trannies. Was thinking bracket and outboards, but will the transom hold them? Could I toss in a pair of diesels? What are the chances of getting my hands on an insurance salvage boat with good engines and transmissions for a killer deal? I'm just entertaining the idea right now, but the auction ends in less than a day, so I need to make up my mind if it's a 'deal' or not. Any help? Thanks, ya'll! Scott |

a full inboard won't hold a plate and twins. Those are only 1 1/2 thick and you will need 2 1/2 for the plate and twins. Can open the back and just add a few layers of plywood to make it thicker on the inside of the transom.

I was afraid of that since the transom was only intended to keep the water out, not push the boat. I found some pix of a sunchaser for sale that had pictures of the engines. Looks like a TIGHT fit for a pair of 5.0L Mercruisers. Might not be room for diesels of any size. Also, the transom has quite a curve to it. I'd re enforce the transom from the outside (as well as the inside) to get rid of the curve. Then add a pair of 300hp outboards on a bracket...the cost might be more than I want on a project boat. Still thinking about it though. |

they are BoatLeveler hydraulic tabs. 10 x 12, I think. I'll get some pix later. Also, didn't you post a link half a year ago or so that had a lot of salvaged/need work type boats? The Sunchaser didn't work out and the inlaws still want a Cruiser type boat. Quote:

Havis...how far up from bottom of transom does ''actuator'' on tabs mount to the transom...one thing slowin' me down is I don't wanna relocate my swim-platform and need to see if it'll tuck under it... :D... Hey Pipe...good to ''see'' ya...tabs on yours??... 8)...don't remember seein' 'em in your pics... :)...
