Default The Final Chapter!!

Well CB showed up today at 8:30 am!!

I got the new fittings it needed and we installed all. There were lots of missing little things??

We worked on all the problem spots, and got it so that we could take it to the water.

Well after the first trip to the water is was still in need of adjustments. Still Idled low and not getting full throttle? After a few minutes of running at 4000 RPM it would slow down and not go over 2500 rpms??

We brought it home change the plugs for the right plugs and gaped to right spec.
The plugs that were in it were the wrong ones and gaped at .025, when they call for .040!

Then it ran much better and we headed to the water, ran real well at first then the same thing happened, would lose rpm's and then it would race up all by it self??

Then the alarm went off and it was heating up and started shaking??

we shut it down let it cool and came back at 700 RPM's all the way.

Took to a Mechanic I know, and he told us he can't be sure but that he thought the motor has real issues internally!! And that in his opion its not worth fixing, cause it is going to need a total rebuild!!

I am all done.

There is nothing to say, I can't afford to get it rebuilt and won't throw more money into a useless venture!

Between motor, shipping, Starter, the connetors, plugs, ect ect ... I have spent the $1700 from the sale of the old motor and the donations.

Not to mention all the agravation with the shipping, and the man hours that I and CB put in!!

I will have to see what I can get for the sale of the motor now?? I don't want to stiff anyone so I have to tell them whats up with it .

O well maybe next year :'(

Have you done a compression test? From what I can remember about your trials it may be a sensor acting up and kicking you into s.l.o.w. mode? How about running it with the cowl off so you can better see the throtle linkage and whats happenening with the buterflies. Just blowing out some ideas.

MJ, you sound as broke as I am. Keep the faith and hopefully its something minor and stupid. Let your buddy tinker with it and see what he finds out. You'll be splashing in again soon. Were all behind you ! ;) ;)

MJ, that sucks man...I really hate it for you. I have too been upside down in a still "broken" outboard before so I know exactly how you feel man. :P

The way its sporadic and all i cant help but think its something simple like a sensor as well.

Maybe it will be a little comfort to you to know that as I type this I am naked. :D

We already looked at all the "minor and stupid" things. Trust me. There is definately something wrong internally on that motor and at this stage of the game, we really hate to start tearing it down. MJ really cannot afford to start throwing money at hunches of what may be wrong. He cannot even have the mechanic start "tinkering" as the mechanic is too busy with other customers right now, plus his time will be worth money as well.
I felt really bad when I left MJ's house today because I fully expected to have everything pretty much ironed out. We fixed the oil injection linkage, choke, throttle linkage, put the StingRay fin on the broken cavitation plate (that helped a great deal). Tach was working, correct spark plugs, fixed the high idle issue within the control box.
Seems to run good for a very short time, then starts overheating. Plenty of water flow out the tell-tale, but the alarm will start sounding, the motor shakes violently and shuts down. The heads were extremely hot at that point. Let it cool and it will eventually start again, so we just idled back to port. BTW; this happened several times. Not just the one time.
I don't know. ???
On MJ's behalf, I would like to thank everyone for their efforts, but I fear he's all done for a while. He's pretty disillusioned right now.

take the t-stats out and try it with out them if the compression is good. I had a 140 did that and ran fine with no t-stats but wouldn't with them.
