Here's the deal. We don't even know if we can do this but I had an idea to start a fishing tournament on this site, with blessing from BigShrimpin.
This first year I would like to do a 50/50 with half the entry fee earnings going to MJ who is down on his luck big time, and the other half going to the winner of the tourney. BS and I won't make anything of course (unless we win, and he has already said he was - we will see ::)). So my plan for this post is two fold: 1 - who would actually enter? We need 20 good men, minimum, anything else is icing. Entry fee as of right now would be 15 or 20 bucks. Up for debate. 2 - what species and how to judge the winner? Great ideas have been posted under the "The Final Chapter" post already. I think we should make a list of 20 target species to include in the tournament and stick to only the 20. I can make a spreadsheet with formulas to calculate the % in length of where the fish falls in relation to min and max lengths per species, which is TBD. Racerx mentioned that length would be better than weight due to variation in scale calibration, and I tend to agree. I could print out official entry fee paperwork and mail or email to participants upon payment. Pictures of fish caught would need to be displayed beside a tape measure and perhaps the entry form copy or maybe just the entry form number to make it official and prevent as much cheating as possible. Up for debate, among other things - how long to run the tourney? One weekend? One week? One month? etc. I'm afraid if we make it for just one weekend, participation will be limited, whereas if we make it from Sept.1 through October 1st, we get much more participation. BUT, Racerx has vowed he will woup all ya'll if he's given a full month - sounds like the trash talkin has already started to me 8) Entry fee? How much? Main thing is how many people can commit? Also, you could even do a point system and also factor in amount of fish caught? But I'm afraid to make this too complicated. Your suggestions are welcome now. Once we see that we can get 20 and the details hammered out I can start an Official Tournament Entry post on the Fishing section. Are you in? You have a say in whether your favorite species will be included, so speak up!! 20 people X 20 bucks = 400 bones with the winner and MJ each getting 200 bones! Turn 20 into 200! This is a 20/200 tournament!! Here is your chance to #1 let us know if you will commit and also have a say in the rules and #2 the whole shootin match is up for debate, so share your thoughts now because I want to iron it out very soon! Time is of the essence! Blue

IM IN ;D BUT I THINK IF YOU UP THE ENTRY TO MORE THAN $50 IT WILL SLOW DOWN THE NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS.
HAS ANYONE THOUGHT ABOUT WAITING TILL FALL AND MAKING IT A STRIPED BASS TOURNEY ???

I thought I was in, and I still will be if I can paint stripes on a Walleye. *So that no one is left out that wants to enter why not alllow all species and compare your catch to the state record for that type of fish. *The state would be the state or province in which you are fishing. *We would be comparing percentage weight, all species would be compared against each other.
http://www.statefishingrecords.com/ I would also think that as the entry fee goes up the number of entries will go down. Example: *Mac Attack catches a 4.75lb walleye *His fish would be compared against the Ontario record walleye 22.25 lb * * *4.75/22.25=21.34% Rap catches a 12.25lb striped bass *NC record striped bass *54.125lb * * * * * * *12.25/54.125=22.6% Rap would win. I suggest using state records because growth rates are different for all states

I'm in . Think about the seasonality of the specis? Best fishing for stipers down here is late Oct to Jan 1. I'm in no matter what the out come of rules. Higher numbers of entries is for a better pot vs higher entry fee. Whet ever happened to the regional V-20 tournys?
