Default My V20 find

New to the board here. Nice message board. Real informative. I always wanted a Wellcraft V20.
I had been looking on Craigslist and Ebay for awhile. I just didn't feel like driving 500 miles to pick up a boat and have it be a total wreck.
I tried a local paper figuring there wouldn't be anything good in there and saw a '73 V20 with a '84 150hp Mercury on it. Sitting on a Shoreline glav. trailer. Said motor needed work. Drove 2 hours across the state to look at it. Didnt look bad, floors and stringers and transom where solid! Motor even started, but wouldn't rev over 1200 rpm and had gas running out of carbs. Guy said gimme a grand and tow it out of my yard. I grabbed it!
I got home and cleaned carbs out. Ran a few test with meter and found out the stator was bad. So far I am real pleased with my find. Thinking about building one seat box with tackle storage underneath and leave the one helm seat for the captain.
I noticed some of the newer boats have a place for the rod boxes, but my boat does'nt have that wall coming straight down from the inside edge of the gunwale. Hard to explain. In other words, I don't have a thick inside wall to cut out a opening to put in a rod box. I have the two saddle gas tanks there. I guess I have to mount some rod holders in there some how. Here are some crappy camera phone pics:

I am in Northeast CT. Found the boat down in Stamford, CT. Southwest corner of state. I got the motor running good and buffed out the hull with rubbing compound. Then I wrapped it up for the winter and backed halfway into carriage shed. Man I need a bigger shed!
I am going to start making a few things during the winter months. Like a new dash and gauges, seat box and maybe a bait box. A friend of mine has a fiberglass business and can shoot any box I make with his chopper gun. I know hand laid glass is better, but for a seat box I think the chopper gun is fine. Its really quick too.

Welcome to the board!!

I have a 75 V20 and is the same config as yours.

With one twist, it use to be a I/O and I converted to outboard via a bracket

Ck out my gallery for some ideas, but it sounds like you know what you want already!

I have the same gas tanks and I have another 25 gal tank were the motor use to be.

Check out everyones gallery's!! There is plenty of ideas and nice looking boats!

Those chopper guns are cool to see in action. Seen a guy using one on some stuff he built.

Welcome to the site. Sounds like you made a great buy. You'll love the boat. The hulls are almost bullet proof.

SEAT BOX, did I hear somebody say seat box?

We did find them on line, in New Zealand,
and some otheres for about $800+

There is another member that is working on boxes as well,
welcome to the board and let us know the progress of said
seat boxes, with pix and prices of the seat boxes.

Can you tell I may be one of the guys looking for SEAT BOXES??? ;D ;)
