So we’ve been out a few times this week and I noticed how amazing our fuel burn has been. We ran a solid 2 plus hours and the fuel gauge never dropped below 3/4 of a tank. So we’re running home tonight and she starts coughing. About 10 seconds later she’s gone. SH!T!!! I’m 85% sure we’re out of gas. Gauge still says 3/4. How can this be?!? I’m not a mile from my marina. So I call Seatow. 5:00pm on a Tuesday evening in some crisp and windy conditions. He shows up in about an hour. Can’t complain. Pumps 10 gallons into my tank and we can’t pump the bulb hard. So he hooks us up and starts pulling us home. After about 1/4 mile, she pumps up and we get her started. He unhooks us and I give him my wife’s number. She handles this type of stuff. It wasn’t until later that I found out this guy banged me $8 bucks a gallon for 10 gallons.
$80 BUCKS FOR 10 GALLONS?!? I should have let him drag me home. That would have been free.

I can t believe you trusted a fuel gauge on a boat
But the good news is the boat ran for two hours with no issues, so that means you have the fuel issues resolved. If it only cost you 40 bucks to verify that, sounds like a deal |

$80 But still cheaper than not having Seatow or boatUS. As to the fuel gauge, I always carry a 6gal portable tank as a "just in case" measure.

I paid $6 a gallon for E free at teh marina back in June, in NC. $8 a gallon delivered isn't too bad considering. BTW, my business has fallen off sharply since the high fuel prices last summer, and I'm not the only one. Every shop in town has slowed down. The off shore charter guys are telling me hot spots off shore that used to be crowded parking lots on good days are void of any other fishermen this year. Inshore guides are still busy. With fuel going back up, doesn't look good

Head boats are charging $100 - $125 for a day trip now.
Filling up a 50 gal tank is around $250 from the cheap gas places around here. (Costco, Delta) (No Ethanol free gas around here in NJ) Seriously thinking of going 4 stroke, just for the decreased fuel burn. ![]() Wish you were closer Spare. I'd have you go over my Merc 200 and make sure everything was ok before winterizing it.

When my trim went out, local Mercury dealer was still 3-4 weeks out. Lotta boats at his shop, but a most were waiting on parts. Ramp traffic has been way down, but I figure most of that is due to college football starting and hunting season more that fuel prices.

I feel like the guy should have let you know how much per gallon it would cost. Then you could have decided how many gallons you wanted to purchase, if any, or asked for a tow instead.
