Default Decision Time

I've kind of come to a crossroads with my 86 with 86 yamaha.....Developed an electrical issue year before last that I haven't had time really to get into other than diagnose no spark on a few cylinders so basically the boat has been sitting covered coming up on 2 years....basically came to the conclusion either we get out of boating and get it out of the driveway, fix what we have or or get something newer.

Basically Like Steplift said in one of his posts I just lost confidence in it. I'm really not into trouble shooting the engine as the tilt tube is stiffer than all get out...I've added extra zirk fittings and such. The shift shaft under there looks thinner and thinner every year. I mean it is almost a 40 year old motor.
I have enough free time to either boat or play around fixing an old boat but not really time for both.

Secondly the boat itself needs floor replacement bad. So basically this is where I'm at.

Option A: Redo my floor and install new power. At this point I just want to have a boat that I know I can hook up whenever I want and go without worrying about anything at least for a few years anyway. Lots of labor but when all is said and done I should be set.

Option B: Save some money and go with a boat with newer power and solid floor...maybe Georgios' friends boat....(although probabyl looking for something newer) Also looking at V21 with a 2019 200 Yamaha with 2 1/2 years of warranty left on it . It does have some hours on it which doesn't necessarily bother me.

price a new boat, it will make you feel better about yours. BTW, rough rule of thumb right now for repower is $100 per Hp plus the rigging and labor

I was at the same decision about 6 or 7 years ago. It is a decision only you can make.
Given the issues with the deck and the track record of these hulls, I would make sure the transom is sound before you go any farther.

Man Rwilson I feel your pain. What I think I would do is fix it,the motor ,losing half the cylinders sounds like a switch box, the trim is a tough one ,I had to buy one on eBay and had it installed. Years ago and do far do good, the soft floor? Use it the way it is until you can try to fix it. I know buying a newer boat sounds good but who is to say you won't have problems with that one too Wilson it's a tough one. I have been out twice this month and all is good but I have been staying close to the marina. I'm getting my Faith's back in my boat. Maybe I'm to over cautious or to safe.
What ever you do will be the right choice .

Hey man welcome back! Good to see you around here. I'm getting to the point I don't have the gumption to do repairs/improvements like I used to. But I'm all about some maintenance, that takes enough time to begin with lol.

Good luck on your crossroad!

One last thing, fixing the engine is no big deal as long as it's a good motor
90 percent of the time with mine anyway is a electrical issue, stator, switch box or very seldom trigger assemble. Plus the other things that I screwed up like stripping the hole that the thermostat bolt goes in.
My son has a friend that repowered his boat with 2 brand spanking new suzukis. And on the first day out one broke down. Than the other one broke down on his second time out. I would fix yours.
The boat? Fix the soft spots when you get time to fix it or live with it. The transom , if it's not flexing. Leave it alone. I'm sure mine is in need of a rebuild but I'm not looking to fix it now 1 st I don't know how and 2nd I'm sure it's not cheap to get it done. Just watch it and fish.
