| Steering helm doesn't last long

Is anyone using a QC2 nfb system in a boat with a 250 Yamaha? Are you having any problems?

whats going wrong with it? that's a lot of hp for a single cable steering. i prefer the Uflex Accura system to the teleflex NFB system. But once your over 150 hp, I go hydraulic or dual cable.

My son had to replace the helm 3 times and the cable once, it gets jammed but he does use the boat a lot , he charters it but when he bought the boat ( a 25 Parker ) that's what was on it a single cable steering system, I told him that I think it's a big engine for a single cable but he told me that's what was in it when he got it and I was with him when he bought it . Dual cable ? Is it hard to convert it?

When replacing cable or helm,I change both. Both are wear items, so I figure for max life, both should be changed at same time.

Phatdaddy,I agree with you , he is going to replace both Like you said they are both where items so if the gears in the helm are worn down the new cable could bind and I agree with spare too .

on an outboard boat, always replace the helm and cable at the same time. Dual cable will only give you the added safety for when you have a single cable failure. Also helps get any slop out of the steering(hi performance stuff). It can make the steering much stiffer. That's a big heavy boat with a big motor to have single cable steering. I would swap it out to hydraulic without hesitation. even though it cost a bunch. Jamestown Distributors generally has the best price on hydraulic steering

Thanks guys I will pass the info on to him I agree he should have hydraulic steering not single cable but as I'm sure you all know you can only give your kids advice whether they take it is another story But that's what I would do.
